Strange Women, Lying in Ponds, Distributing Swords is No Basis for a System of Government

A Yorkshire [England] school girl has made the unexpected discovery of a four-foot sword in the lake that King Arthur's Excalibur was apocryphally hurled into.

Matilda Jones, aged seven, from Doncaster, found the sword when she was paddling in Dozmary Pool, in Cornwall with her father, Paul.
Of course you're going to watch the Monty Python clip, aren't you.

Be some pretty remarkable steel to survive sixteen or seventeen centuries in briny marsh waters.

Valyrian steel.

Of course I never miss the opportunity to watch a Monty Python clip! (Except for the gross one.)

They did say it was a 20-30 year old movie prop...I'd be interested in what filmed in that area in the 90's.

IMDB doesn't show anything filmed at Dozmary Pool ever. 700 some movies and TV shows filmed in Cornwall.

TTB: It could be some weird trick of chemistry, like the iron pillar of Delhi. My grandfather, who was born and raised in pre-Commie China told me that Chinese smiths could fix cast iron tools and implements, which, according to Western science, is impossible of accomplishment.

We don't know jack shit about the past, except for bits and pieces we find and use them to weave a charming, logical story, based on our own prejudices and conviction of superiority.

Well, The Three Musketeers was filmed nearby in 1993...The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns in 1999...just two I found quickly that filmed within the general area of the Pool and likely had swords involved.

I was thinking of that pillar.

It might be that she just has a totally awesome father:

"By chance, the find occurred just a day after Paul Jones had told his daughter about the legend of King Arthur on the way to the lake."

I have 3 daughters so I know what fathers of daughters have to do sometimes. Are we sure dad didn't "salt the claim" a bit?

I love the photo of her standing by the sword. The expression on her face is complete and total bad-ass -- "c'mon, punk, make my day!". LOL.

So turns out that the sword was actually thrown into the pond in the 1980's by a LARPer oops "re-enactor" who threw it in as part of some ceremony regarding Celtic gods. He has a photo of himself with the sword in its younger days. Says he, about why the sword wasn't found for 30 years, "it had to find someone worthy to find it." LOL.
