Ultimately, he was wrong.

Make no mistake, something needed to be done. He just chose the wrong (unConsitutional) Path by which to do it.
Police seem to almost always want to shortcut that pesky Constitution.

Good, he failed at one of the primary duties of a sheriff. Too many people died in his jails of unexplained causes. Investigate the coroner next?
