President* Donald Trump said Wednesday his administration's proposed US-Mexico border could pay for itself -- if it was solar.Vertical solar panels. Is Trump ingesting high-speed chicken feed?
A "solar wall" could "create energy and pay for itself," the President said during a rally at the US Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
"And this way, Mexico will have to pay much less money," Trump said. "And that's good, right? Is that good? You are the first group I've told that to. A solar wall. It makes sense. Let's see. We are working it out. Solar wall panels."

Vertical panels? Huh. I never thought I'd be saying this without sarcasm, but that's one wall that would work a lot better on our northern border.
Let's see...vertical panels would get sunlight from the south facing wall surface. So in south Texas, in the summer, the sun angle is about 86 degrees elevation, and even in the winter it's about 36 degrees. So, with a 4 degree incident angle, solar yield is virtually nil, unless you angle the panels. Of course a 4 degree panel (or ramp), from the Mexican perspective, is an interesting way of stopping people.
Aa a jobs measure, Donnie could have a whole bunch of Mexican kids with squeegees and buckets cleaning the panels and asking the Border Control agents for tips though.
The panels could be mounted on brackets and angled back, but then they'd sort of be steps in a ladder that would need constant replacing as they are used for that.
I wonder what his coal miner supporters think of that idea?

Doug, at a 86 degree angle, the panels above (and beside and above) the lower panels would shade 90+% of each panel under it, INEFFICIENT
Yeah, it was a dumb idea trying to make the walldoggle look like a good idea, or some kind of opportunity.

No Doug, the sole purpose of the wall panels would be to electrify the wall, thus adding a deterrent to climbing over it, and providing an incentive to tunneling under it, which would provide employment to Mexicans on their own side of the border, at least until they tunnel through to this side, thus deterring them from coming to the United States because they'll already have a good-paying tunneling job. Easy-peasey.
Yours crankily,

I get it! Then they can use the money they earn to pay for the wall...
