The Grift Keeps on Grifting Along; Educational Edition

The Trump administration has asked Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. to lead a panel on reform of higher education regulations, the leader of the evangelical Christian school said Tuesday.

“In the Department of Education, there’s too much intrusion into the independent accreditation,” Falwell told The Washington Post in a telephone interview. “There’s too much intrusion into the operation of universities and colleges. I’ve got a whole list of concerns. It mainly has to do with deregulation.”
Gee, why would President* Trump be interested in deregulation of higher education. Could it be because...
Two days before his swearing in, Donald Trump has forked over $25 million to settle three Trump University fraud lawsuits.

The Trump Entrepreneur Initiative, originally known as Trump University, delivered the payment on Wednesday, plaintiffs' lawyers told CNNMoney.

The settlement was reached in November shortly after the election.
Trump U wasn't the only for-profit college that was conning its marks students. Not by a long shot.

Given Liberty University's long record of discriminating against almost everybody, it's likely that Falwell's first order of business is going to make it possible to do that.

My feeling is that if colleges and universities don't want to be regulated by the Feds, all they have to do is stop taking Federal money. But no, like any other good group of social conservatives, Falwell and his crowd are more than willing to grift from the Treasury, as long as they get to do what they will with our money.
