Comcast now hands out Internet routers with wireless built in. What they don't mention, at least not prominently, is that your router will be a public hotspot for all Comcast users. So if you live near a public place, your home system will be host to lord-knows how many people.
If you have a Comcast wireless router, it might be a good idea to go to the Google and look up how to shut that shit off. Unless you like the idea of paying Comcast for the privilege of operating a public hotspot for those assholes.

Lovely, and part of the reason my Verizon FIOS router has the wireless switched off and a Netgear Wireless Router jacked into it. I run the household service off the Netgear, which I have relative control over...I don't trust Verizon, now I know why.
Good point! On a different note- Merry Christmas to you and yours! :-)
Just set a new SSID and WPA password.
Its not a bad idea to change that on some periodic schedule.
Eck!
Indeed it is, and the next debate is do you switch off SSID broadcast...or relabel it something interesting. I've seen "FBI Surveillance Truck 27" and "Stingray 7" around.
Besides using your bandwidth, another reason to turn it off is to prevent criminals from using your IP address to cover their criminal activity.
Steve, there is the plausible deniability aspect of that...you can do stuff and blame an "intruder". Of course, due process and respect for the law is integral to that defense, so nevermind.
