Amazing that they are that peaceful...

Once cats sort out their hierarchy they can coexist quite peacefully in fairly sizable colonies. At least, at naptime, which is 20 hours a day. Feeding time can be a bit... rough... as they readjust their hierarchy again around the food dishes. As for this shelter cattery, it is so refreshing to see the animals allowed to move around and have some space instead of being cooped up in row after row of cages. Shelters always reminded me of kitty jails because of all the cages. This is more of a kitty hotel.

The only cats in that shelter which are in individual cages (and they are big ones) are those with medical issues or those on special diets. There is a room for weaned kittens, and a medical isolation room for newcomers. (Incoming cats are kept apart from the cattery for two weeks.)

Nursing mothers have their own room. All of the other adult cats are in a common cattery that has lots of places for them to sleep and play, with places to climb and windows to gaze out of.

The good thing is that all of the cats are socialized to live with other cats.
