Republicans are showing their hand pretty clearly: They are not just against abortion, they are against all forms of contraception. But even a Fox News poll found that this issue is a loser for the GOP.
The right-wing of the GOP, which now seems to be the center of the party, would probably repeal the 19th Amendment if they could get away with it. I have no doubt that there are some elements in the GOP which would happily restore the old rule that married women were chattel.

I think they're trying to repeal the 20th century. Also the second half of the 19th century when the slaves were freed, while they're at it.
We definitely need to encourage the Republicans to openly oppose all forms of birth control as well as any other women's rights.
Thus guaranteeing a 2012 Obamaslide.
Yeah, with Pope Being-a-Dick as their cheerleader squad, the 19th and 20th centuries would be a good while in the future to where these twits are trying to take the nation.
I actually think they'd like to see the Robber Baron age restored....but with a side of religious fervor to keep the serfs in their places. And yes, that includes women.
They are unbelieveable in their hubris. And to think "they" feel that they are the only ones capable of running a "free" country?
I consider their wishes "unamerican". I guess homeschooling is a Big Fail if it continues this kind of thought. We are still at war as in civil. They never entered the new century.

As a far right Republican, let me just say that no one in the GOP wants to prohibit women from access to birth control.
Yes, a great many of us would like to restrict access to abortion. In fact a majority of Americans of all political stripes would like to do so, to varying degrees.
But, again, no one is calling for restrictions on the availability of birth control.
But many of my fellow Republicans and I are curious as to how suddenly "access" to birth control has come to mean "provided at no cost whatsoever to every woman in the country."
Why is it suddenly that BC meds and treatments must be at no cost to the recipient? Why these drugs alone. Every other drug still has some level of copay.
And when did it become the purview of the federal government to say to every employer that YOU WILL provide the prescription that we decide. Why can't companies choose to provide whatever level of coverage best suits them?
Is there anything else you'd like me to force insurance companies to provide free of charge?
Brad, what *I* see is the GOP lining up to tell women that they can be denied birth control if anyone claims that they have a religious qualm.
Let's say, for the sake of argument, that a company, which had a health insurance plan, is bought out by an investor who is also a practicing Christian Scientist. Does he now have the right to kill off the health insurance plan because his religion is against medical intervention? If an employee has a heart attack, can he forbid anyone to call for an ambulance?
If a company is purchased by a person who believes that face cards are the tools of Satan, does he get to fire employees who play card games on their own time?
How far do we go down the road of letting one person's religious convictions dictate what other people can or cannot do?
