The Federal luggage thieves are going to institute "random screening" of passenger luggage on Amtrak, under some crappy-ass program named "RAIL SAFE".
There is also something called the "NSI program", which may or may not mean the "National Stasi Informant Program", something that the homeland security spooks have been trying to implement for years, now. They are promising that they will have "rigorous safeguards" for civil liberties, which is a fucking knee-slapper if I have ever heard one. The only civil liberty safeguards that ever work against those fuckers have been embarrassing Federal lawsuits, followed by "consent orders" which are overseen by judges who have had their fill of police misconduct, such as the one that the LAPD had to abide by for most of the `00s after their cops were busted for shooting people without justification and massive testilying.

Cheaper to FedEx luggage than to have it abused and lost, with items stolen.
They also gonna guard every hundred feet of track so no one tosses a grenade or RPG at a train?
Lot easier to derail a train than that, Nangleator. Not going to give you examples of how it was accidentally done in the past (don't want the STASI showing up at my door), but it doesn't require any explosive ordinance at all, just common vehicles... at least, that's what my reading of the news in newspapers over the years say, but hey, Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh aren't in the newspapers, so clearly the newspapers can't be accurate (heh!).
