To those top McCain advisers who leaked the little story about seeing Sarah Palin in a towel; to those who called her and her family "Wasilla hillbillies" while using her to stoke class warfare with red meat speeches and an anti-elitist message; to those who claim she didn't know Africa was a continent; to those McCain aides who say she is the reason they lost this election: Can I please remind you of one thing? You picked her.
You are the ones who supposedly vetted her, and then told the American people she was qualified for the job. You are the ones who, after meeting her a couple of times, told us she was ready to be just one heartbeat away from the presidency.
If even half of what you say now is true, then boy, did you try to sell the American people a bill of goods. If Sarah Palin is the reason some voters chose Barack Obama, that is no one's fault but your own.

Actually, I'd remind them that their numbers were in the fucking toilet before they chose her, and their numbers bumped up (at stayed up) after they chose her.
McCain ran a for-shit campaign, his staff knows it, and they have no one to bag on but themselves.
I think the recriminations from McCain staffers are more aimed at hurting Palin's 2012 chances. Palin is very popular amongst the mouth-breathing Republican base. The problem is, both Palin and her mouth-breathing supporters repel most Americans who do not like that kind of rudeness and crudity, which is a problem (for Republicans) if she manages to stay popular enough amongst the base to run in 2012. So they figure that if they destroy her now, they will not have to destroy her in 2012.
In short, these attacks upon Palin by a significant number of Republican insiders aren't intended to be a justification for the loss. Instead, they are a first salvo being fired in the 2012 Republican nomination campaign.

Christ, bite your tongue, Badtux. The idea of a new campaign season starting already will give me a case of the dribbling shits.
Cranky, I think it is certain that on the GOP side of the aisle, that the `12 campaign is already underway. Quietly, certainly, but politicians are probably already mulling over who will be a strong candidate and the ones who are ambitious, such as Palin and Pawlenty, are getting the nuclei of their teams assembled. Betcha Mike Bloomberg is already looking at a run, as he'll be in the last years of his third term as mayor of NYC.
Assuming that Obama wins a second term, look for a repeat of this election cycle, because Biden will be 74 in 2016 and probably too old to run. so it will be wide open for both parties. Hillary will be 69, on the edge of being too old, but not entirely.
Betcherass that the fun is already underway, though under the radar, for the most part.
