This came close to being a very bad day:

As a long time British sports car owner (slow learner) I used to wonder how the Hell the Brits managed to win the Battle of Britain, given their well known mechanical reliability issues.

The answer is simple. Each plane had two mechanics (A fitter and a rigger) assigned to it full time. If you can afford 2 mechanics full time, your British motoring experience will be quite enjoyable. If you can't afford that, congratulations. You now have something to do every weekend.

I can assure you glide, or the lack thereof, is on the back of every helicopterer's mind ...

My son and I take care of our 65 Sunbeam Tiger. And it does take two mechanics plus a lift. Concrete pads have no padding!!

Our drift to a stop (after exiting the highway) was due to a broken roll pin in the distributor. It was preceded with a very annoying backfire.

Yep, he'd thought that through and was prepared!!! Well done!

The landing gear is retractable. I hope the seat cushion is too.

Just Musing, seems to me that the Sunbeam Tiger was a Ford engine in a British car. So you can't blame the Brits for that. Now the "Prince Of Darkness" Lucas electricals are another thing.
