The Unbearable Lightness of Blogging

Guests are in for the weekend.

One of nice things about real-time flight tracking sites is that you can watch the flight you're waiting for to come in as you sit in the free cellphone waiting lot. Some other sites have time delays.

Or you can do what I did: Take a portable aircraft radio with you and tune in Approach Control. That way, you can read or pay attention to your surroundings, as cell phone lots seem to be in the ass end of the airport and ripe for evil fuckery.

That's not mine, but I do have an old Icom A-20. It's thirty years old, the battery pack's been replaced twice (and I no longer fly), but it still works.

Yep, Flight Aware for android is great for the airport cell phone waiting parking lot to tell you the flight status. Good depictions of coming rain as well.
Flight Radar24 is better at giving aircraft and flight info and pictures of the aircraft type. As well as aircraft ground tracks. You can follow DC-10 Tanker 911 from the McClellan Calfire base to the various drop zones. Great app.
