Trumpers Keep Trying to Kill Their Kids; Pandemic Ed.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new studies Friday that show enforcing masks in schools helps reduce the spread of COVID-19.

One study looked at data from schools in Arizona's Maricopa and Pima Counties after they resumed in-person learning in late July for the 2021-22 academic year. The two counties account for roughly 75% of the state's population.

The CDC found that the K-12 schools that did not have mask requirements at the beginning of the school year were 3.5 times more likely to have COVID outbreaks than schools that required all people, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask indoors from the first day of school.

Some states seem to be run by Trumpist lunatics, who are doing everything they can to ban masks in schools. Other states, although run by Republicans, seem to be marginally saner.

As of the latest update Thursday afternoon, 141 of 171 [Kentucky] school districts, about 82%, have decided to require masks.

I thank the Almighty that the current crop of batshit-crazy right-wingers[1] weren't around when vaccines were developed for smallpox, polio, diphtheria, measles, mumps. rubella, tetanus and other diseases. They were probably too occupied with railing against integration, miscegenation and fluoridation.

Dying to own the liberals. That's some idea for a party that has no ideas beyond tax cuts and obstruction.
Will they wake up before the party is thinned to extinction?

w3ski, signs point to "no". Maybe a group of rational conservatives will assemble in a meeting hall in Ripon, WI and form a new party.

I read that some of them are working to repeal mandates on vaccinations to all of those diseases you listed. I guess they don't remember what it was like before those vaccines were around.

Magical thinking.

The only cure is to get their neighbors laughing at them and calling them the clowns they are. Then and only then will they quit their nonsense....and pretend that they never believed this shit. Killing themselves and their kids won't do it. Ridicule is the only thing that gets through a head of solid bone.

The linked study is not very rigorous. It is weak support for policy.

The only study on the effectiveness of masks in a community showed a 16% reduction in the chance of testing positive for COVID-19. Nice, but is not enough to justify the mask mandates.

And vaccinating children against Covid?

Sorry, 0_0, citing a toxicology journal isn’t credible, as COVID is a virus, not a toxin. All those people who died leaving families and small children behind, they were all elderly with significant comorbidities? That’s what the article seems to imply.

If there is only a 16% reduction is is still then a reduction
and imposing it is a valid aid to reducing transmission.

However depending on what study you review it can be far better
than that.

Its been long proven and accepted that masking is an aid to
safety and reduction of disease transmission.

For those that do not understand:

What item should not be in this list:
Hat
Condom
Covid
mask
