Because Beto's quit.
Don't let the storm door hit you in the ass, Bobby.
Best snark on this:
Presidential candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke has announced he is dropping out of the presidential race so that he can spend more time taking guns away from his family. “I’ve been so focused on grabbing the guns of strangers,” O’Rourke told the press, “that I’ve neglected taking away the guns of those closest to me.”
...
Having dropped out of the race, O’Rourke wasted no time in turning his attention to his family, immediately confiscating his children’s super soakers. ... O’Rourke also asked his nephew Tommy where he kept his Nerf dart guns; Tommy claimed he lost them all in a “tragic boating accident.”

And the prick said he won't run against Cornyn where he might have done some actual good.
Let's see if he holds to that after nobody is paying attention to him.

I don't see him winning a statewide election in Texas, having run on a platform of "hell, yes, we're going to take your guns".
IDK, Texas isn’t as pure pro-gun as people imagine. There’s a solid demographic that Beto can get support from for limiting guns, and geniuses like some of the Open Carry folks playing with guns they don’t know how to handle safely don’t gain any support. Scaring people who aren’t involved in pro or con by slinging weapons so they point at people driving by is just a poor choice...leaving AR’s stacked up on seats while eating, with the safety off, is a easy own goal for the anti types...it’s not smart.
You're probably right. Even with the demographic changes there, Texas politics are still rooted in gun culture.
I'm just pissed at him for not seriously contesting the senate race there, which he had a chance at before his verbal malfunction. Taking Cornyn's seat would have a measurable positive effect on the country, whereas a vanity presidential campaign will not.

Doug, I doubt he would be close to Cornyn. Cornyn’s profile in Texas is moderate Republican, much more popular than Cruz. I doubt Beto could get within 5 points, and the gun issue probably adds a few too. Against a hard right opponent, Beto has a chance, against moderates, he’s more of a liability with his actions in the Presidential realm.
