GUILTY!

All three men charged in the death of Ahmaud Arbery were convicted of murder Wednesday.

The jury reached its decision after more than 10 hours of deliberations following a trial in which prosecutors argued that the defendants provoked a confrontation with Arbery and defense attorneys said their clients were acting in self-defense.

I did not expect this verdict. I expected either an acquittal or a hung jury, especially given the defense's racially-charged juror selection and their use of the Scary Black Man Defense.

But the jury apparently didn't buy that shit. Apparently they agreed that there was no reasonable grounds to suspect a man in jogging clothes who was carrying nothing could be reasonably suspected of being a burglar.

Maybe things are changing. But as others have pointed out, the defendants' buddies in local law enforcement and in the prosecutor's office did try to sweep this murder under the rug. Only the video going public in this case (and in the murder of Laquan McDonald in Chicago) made prosecution a possibility.

“Let the word go forth all over the world that a jury of 11 Whites and one Black, in the Deep South, stood up in the courtroom and said that Black lives matter,” - Rev. Al Sharpton

Amen.

Who'da thunk that Georgia would be the first place reality would affect a verdict in the courtroom? ID-10-T's actually thought they could kill someone, video record it, and get off scott-free. Unlike the Killer Kid, these three will do some penance for their actions.

I can't wait for the right to spin this into an evil Democratic plot to destroy civilization (/sarc)

I don't quite follow how a person can be found guilty of multiple murder charges for the same murder; one is more than enough.

Another correct verdict.

Misuse of force has gotten a lot of cops in trouble even during
a real arrest.

I suspect that was in the back of the jurors minds, as in if a
cop has gotten nailed for that, those jokers should too.

The way defense went off on the racist rails there at the end leaves me wondering if they weren't setting up an incompetent counsel appeal as a vehicle to run this through the system to our unelected panel of Catholic Illuminati where they'll get the Rittenhouse treatment.

Everything is still performance, and performance is still a category error, and it is idle to try to impute any meaning to the distinction between performances that one likes and those that one doesn't like.
