No Doubt That Trump Thinks That The Michigan Right-Wing Extremists Are "Very Fine People"

The FBI says it has thwarted a plot to abduct and overthrow Michigan's Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Mrs Whitmer has become a target of coronavirus sceptics after enacting strict mitigation measures that were overturned by a judge last week.

Officials say the kidnapping plot involved six men who planned to hold a "treason trial" for her.

"Hatred, bigotry and violence have no place" in Michigan, Mrs Whitmer said, describing the accused as "depraved".

In a press conference on Thursday, the governor tied the plot against her to the rhetoric of President Donald Trump, who she said has spent the last several months "stoking distrust, fomenting anger and giving comfort to those who spread fear and hatred and division".
...
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, said that separate to the kidnapping charges, seven members of the "wolverine watchmen" militia will be charged by the state with gang affiliation and providing material support to terrorists. Mrs Nessel said the arrested militia members hoped to start a civil war.

Yep, "very fine people". My guess is that the state charges are being brought to ensure that those alleged domestic terrorists will be sent to prison, even if Trump pardons them.

So far 13 of them have been rounded up.

Just the side effect of a tone deaf preznut and chief dog whistle blower.

He's also complained that Barr has not rounded up enough of his political
enemies including the current candidates and former president.

Seems the year of the jackpot is on track!

Let us hope not. That didn’t end well.

I've been waiting for this since I posted that picture of of a pig spitting in a cop's face, noting if it were me they would have shot me. This was inevitable, at some point they will step over the line, and the wink n' nod tolerance will end. If law enforcement is to retain any shred of credibility it has no choice. This follows the pattern lain down in Montana thirty years ago.

These fools remain welcome, in my book, to point their pop-guns at the US Army.

Note also: they went after a woman.

Some of them were the same armed morons who tried to storm the capitol when the anti-covid measures were first imposed, apparently believing that they could carry their ARs into the gallery above the senate chamber and sashay away without being positively identified and investigated.

Pro tip for any other morons thinking about armed assault of seats of state government: like that scene in the movie "And Justice For All" ... they gear up for that.

Six men were charged federally and seven in state court Thursday in connection with an alleged plot to kidnap, or kill, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI).

There you go, Comrade.
Incels, moron militias, the Trump base....don't any of these clowns have any sense of necessities of survival? The pursuit of unhappiness actively pursued, a sort of slow motion immiserating suicide.

It seems like here in Michigan we have got a lot of home grown nut cases. The state has had Terry Nichols, the federal building bomber and the Hutatree christian militia who planned on killing police officers and start a civil war. Now this bunch. So instead of being concerned about a plot to kidnap a governor Trump is tweeting that our governor didn't thank him for saving her and saying she is a basically a bad person. The dog whistles and his own projection that incourage these nuts are still being thrown out there. I'm glad the Feds are still doing there job in spite of Trump.

Dan, for Trump, his only concern is how hard you can kiss his ass.

In a word, NO. They lack the basic sense that one must practice basic
skills of keeping a lid on it until its time to move. They do not
practice OPSEC, and they advertised their intent. When rhetoric
looked more like action they got scooped up. Not like they were
not hard to find.

To some of them, a mask might have helped. In the bad old days
a mask was a basic requirement for the bad guy.

Its why I stated a while back that all prior presidents that called
for gun restrictions triggering buying more guns. Those sales were
eclipsed by a preznut that that encourages wilding and anarchy
making people that would never own sit up and notice why they
must buy.

Keep your scan up, your powder dry.

According to an affidavit filed by Michigan State Police, the “Wolverine Watchmen” are a militia group who have recruited members using Facebook since November 2019. Michigan State Police alleged the group was founded by Joseph Morrison and Pete Musico, who are both facing state charges for their involvement in the plot to kidnap and potentially harm the governor.

The affidavit said members of the militia group would periodically meet for “field training exercises” in remote areas where they took part in firearms training and tactical drills to prepare for the “boogaloo."

Funny, that’s not the truth.

🤷🏼‍♂️

Last Friday, the state's Supreme Court ruled that Mrs Whitmer did not have the legal authority to issue emergency executive orders and that that responsibility belonged to the state's legislature.

Following the ruling, the attorney who argued the case before the top court advised citizens to "burn your masks", which health officials say are necessary to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Musing, actually the ruling was the governor DOES have the legal authority to issue emergency executive orders. However, the order can not exceed 30? days without legislative approval. Gov. Whitmer periodically extended her original order without consultation nor approval from the state legislature. This ruling struck down her executive order after 21 days from the ruling.

Dale, you are correct. In review, I didn't get the quote marks in or the article link up. My bad. My previous post was to point out that the Attorney arguing before the court seemed to have a personal position that the case was more about masks than what existing law meant.

Also this which addresses your point. Fairly long, detailed, and granular.
