From the looks of that cockpit, over-the-shoulder visibility was pretty poor. It wasn't important, for the -102 was built to shoot down bombers. It wasn't a dogfighter.

I 'think' it could pretty much run away from any threat... and you're exactly right. Specific mission design!
Sweet aircraft...and it led right into the F-106, which was a Goddess of Interceptors.
what amazes me still is Geo W B in fact was able to fly one of these - not much and not for long but still... I had rides in these and the situational awareness required to stay a step ahead of the aircraft was scary
Half that video was the F-106.
But hans, Dubya isn't stupid, just monumentally lazy and disinterested. I'm sure that flying a hot and vicious aircraft, like hanging, tends to focus the mind wonderfully.
