“Our actions are based on what we’re faced with on the streets. America is becoming more heavily armed.”No, Barn', that's just bullshit. Recent history has shown that local cops cannot be trusted with these toys. The Ferguson and St. Louis County cops were shooting tear gas at people in their own front yards. They were arresting people sitting in a restaurant. They were lying on top of their armored trucks and aiming rifles at unarmed people.
There have been a number of soldiers who have commented recently that they went out on patrol in Iraq and Afghanistan with fewer weapons and less gear than the St. Louis cops have been festooned themselves with. Those soldiers could reasonably expect to go up against people with RPGs and full-auto AKs.
It should be clear to everyone by now: The boys in blue have gone well down the road to being a poorly-trained, poorly-disciplined and poorly-led occupying paramilitary goon squads.
This is still a democracy, people. Call your politicos, vote and let's change this shit, if we can.

Cops shooting at the bystanders has been going on a long time. Back during the Berkeley 60's riots, my Dad had an office building on Telegraph Ave. The street ended at the university and demonstrations were pushed down the street to disperse. The tear gas got too strong in Dad's second floor office and he came outside to see why a crowd was forming on his lawn. Cop shoots into the crowd and a guy next to my Dad gets a piece of buckshot in the back of his hand. Dad being who he was took time to dig out the guys pellet and bandage him up before heading home. The cops didn't want any observers or even watchers.
