Yet another nut case was on a mission to kill liberals.
But hey, nobody on the Right is willing to stand up to the Limbaugh, the Becks, the Hannities, the Dobbses and say: "You clowns bear some moral responsibility for this shit. Tone it down."
You won't hear a word from the Right about how their rabble-rousing rhetoric might be inspiring the crazies to do things.
Which leads me to conclude that they are just fine with it.
Oh, and if this guy were a Muslim, you'd be hearing "terrorism, terrorist, a religion of murder" and all of that crap from the Wingnut bloviators on cable news. But this asswipe apparently is a good ol' `Murrican white dude, so those words won't be spoken about him.

Of course they're just fine with it. Just like they were just fine with it back in 1919 when they founded and funded the American Legion out of returning soldiers from WW1 as an American fascist organization to beat up and sometimes kill liberals, labor unionists, etc. (you can find references to that in some of the older Woodie Guthrie songs) (and what happened to the American Legion so that they quit being a fascist paramilitary? Well, WW2 sorta gave fascism a black name).
Violence amongst their supporters is not a flaw to the right wing mindset. It's a feature. It helps keep the "little people" in their place -- the violent inbred foul-mouth cretins are happy to have someone giving them the green light to do what they love to do anyhow, and hopefully it keeps the remainder of the population terrorized and afraid to join together against the ring-wingers.
Hmm, have to go to the gun show this weekend. Looking for a nice .357 double-action, 3 to 4 inch barrel, moderate weight, decent quality...
I suggest looking mainly at Rugers and pre-lock S&Ws. Especially in the case of the latter, there are still a lot of ex-police trade-ins on the market. Avoid Taurus. They're not all crap, but if you get a bad one--which in my experience is about a .3 probability--you'll find out just how many disgusting quasi-sexual metaphors a company's customer service can suck.
And I didn't know that about the American Legion. Given the date of their founding, though, it doesn't surprise me. That was the same general period as my mom's family getting run out of Georgia by the KKK.
wv: steral. Feral, but sterilized?
Hmm, thanks, jbrock. Looked at the Rugers and noticed a nice little lightweight easily concealable snubby, the LCR. Something that small I'd want in .38 rather than .357 (they have a .357 version but that heavy a load in that light a weapon? Sorry, not for me), but looks interesting for a number of reasons -- reliable, easily concealable, etc. Only barely adequate firepower and not accurate beyond 10 yards or so, but if I need firepower beyond 10 yards I'm not going to have access to anything other than a hunting weapon anyhow due to #$%@ California carry laws, and "not much firepower" is relative. My 12 gauge is my primary firepower, this would be a backup for when I can't get to the big boomer and certainly better than zero firepower, which is the alternative in that case.
So anyhow, back to right wing terrorism. Righties are always fond of pointing out ELF and the Black Bloc as examples of left-wing terrorism. Thing is, ELF kills Hummers and Black Bloc kills Starbucks windows. Neither kills, well, people. This dude was a less competent Timmy McVeigh, out to kill as many "leftists" as he could. Saying that's the same thing as killing a Hummer is sorta telling about the right-wing mindset... they really don't consider lefties to be actual real humans. Huh. Go figure.

The LCR has a pretty stout recoil.
I'd look for a nice 3" Model 13 Smith.
Nobody on the right is readyto stand up to the NRA.
Fixer, this isn't the NRA's doing. Blaming the NRA is like blaming the ACLU for cross-burnings.
This is the tiredly predicable result of hate-talk radio and their fellow travelers on Fox News.
The dude's *MOTHER* bought him the guns, he wasn't legally allowed to buy guns due to his felony convictions. Astounding! She is apparently quite a piece of work. Hopefully she'll be arrested for illegally providing guns to a felon... we can hope, anyhow. So anyhow, the NRA didn't have anything to do with this -- he had illegal weapons, purchased for him illegally, and no law that the NRA has proposed or gotten passed would have changed that.
EBM, yes, the .357 version of the LCR isn't something that I'd want because of the recoil issue. But regular non-+P .38 shouldn't be *that* stout, I haven't shot regular .38 for years but I recall that recoil with a regular 3" barrel S&W .38 was not stout even by the standards of a scrawny 98 pound kid, I seem to recall it having recoil similar to 9mm, fairly mild. I'll try to sign up with a shooting range / gun shop to test fire it first though...

BadTux, one of my revolvers is an old S&W Military & Police model (ca. 1949) with the 2" snubby barrel. Given its age, I don't dare shoot +P loads in it, but cheap 158 grain semiwadcutters from Magtech print to point of aim at 10 yards. It may not be the greatest combo, but it beats throwing rocks or mixing it up with a knife (or a .22).
Buffalo Bore makes some really good standard pressure loads especially for short barreled revolvers. You might want to have a look at those. I guarantee you can't afford to shoot 'em for target practice, but given the quantities of ammo usually expended in self-defense--i.e., little to none--the price of the Buffalo Bore stuff isn't a real factor for that application.
Back to the main topic: You and EBM are right about this; the NRA had diddly/squat to do with this wacko or his enabling mom.
Hell, I'm an NRA member, though I admit that's mostly because it's required for the subsets of competitive shooting that interest me. Anyway, it doesn't follow that I'd vote for whatever wingnut gets the GOP nomination. It's easier and more economical for me to oppose a center/leftish Administration on the two or three issues where I disagree strongly with them, than to help vote in the hard right and then have to fight the bastards over everything but those two or three issues.
