Dean Kaman, inventor of the Segway, is developing an artificial hand.
The reason that is patriotism is that there is no way such a development can ever be economically justifiable. The last big step in the development of artificial hands was the Trautman Hook from the 1920s. Kaman is not the only one working on this idea.
Too bad that it took a horrible war to advance this area of design.

Technology like this often comes at times of war when too many people become permanently disabled.
I hope he's very successful in his mission. He deserves some kind of major award.
