What Was the Quid Pro Quo?

President* Donald Trump plans to pardon I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, a former top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney, according to a person familiar with the president’s decision.

The person said the announcement could come as early as Friday. The person, who wasn’t authorized to discuss the decision ahead of its public announcement and demanded anonymity, said the pardon has been under consideration at the White House for months. The plans were first reported by ABC News.
It's a pretty safe bet that Trump does not do things from the goodness of his heart. Even when he purports to make a charitable donation, he does it with both maximum publicity and then the charity has to follow up to avoid being stiffed.

So if Trump is giving Scooter a pardon, then the question is: What did Trump get for it?

Why would there need to be one? Scooter did nothing wrong.

It's just Trump making a statement about railroading completely innocent people for political reasons. A topic he is intimately familiar with.

Trump does nothing for free. He does nothing that does not benefit him.

he got something out of this. Count on it.

"Scooter did nothing wrong"-- for which he was convicted of a felony.

Funny how the uncovering of a NOC CIA agent is OK with the Right.

Hell, treason is OK with the Right, as long as they're the ones doing it.

Nicolle Wallace, White House Communications Director during the presidency of George W. Bush and friend of Scooter Libby, speculates that Fergus is conditioning the public to pardons for the crimes his staff are guilty of, and of which he might also prove to be guilty. She mentioned Mike Flynn and Paul Manafort as two examples of those already caught up in lying to the feds and obstruction, crimes she claims her former boss took seriously enough to resist pardoning Libby when not doing so enraged Cheney.

' "Scooter did nothing wrong"-- for which he was convicted of a felony.'

Correct. Just like you have done nothing wrong. But the feds could find a felony to pin on you tomorrow if they wanted to. Picking your toes in Poughkeepsie

Richard Armitage is the one that uncovered a 'NOC' CIA employee. Scooter just did the thing with his toes.

I am gobsmacked by the concept, NJT, that because anybody could be convicted of a felony, that nobody should be convicted of a felony.

Hell, let's close down th Federal courts and free all of those folks locked up in Federal stir, from bErnie MAdoff to Richard Hansel and Ted Kazcinski.

New Jovian Thunderbolt said...

The felony that Scooter was convicted was...? Do you know?

Perjury? Just like the felony Bill Clinton was convicted of. Excepts Scooter's witness against him recanted her testimony. So he wasn't even really guilt of that.

This is just like Ted Kazcinski. Except if Ted never sent a single bomb.

Bill Clinton was never convicted of a felony, Old Moldy Juppiter:

NJT, I think you're missing a few critical facts here...

One of the felonies that Libby was convicted of was perjury (two counts). There was also obstruction of justice and making false statements.

One of the witnesses against Libby recanted her testimony. There were 85.

DA has already pointed out your elementary mistake re: Clinton's impeachment.

It's easy to make a story when you selectively ignore the data that don't fit your thesis. Doesn't mean it's at all true though.

It's all from the same thing, bmq. A prosecutor went after a man instead of a crime. They couldn't get who they wanted so they settled for someone else down the chain. Someone innocent of everything besides contempt of prosecutor.

YOU don't like when they do it to your side, I don't like when they do it to my side, and I don't even like it when they do it to this other side.

Having been found in error on some elementary facts, hoary Juppiter doubles down on his assertion of both sides do it.
