Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes

A San Francisco police officer has died of COVID-19, sources say.

Officer Jack Nyce died Saturday at the age of 47, Chief Bill Scott said.

Nyce tested positive for COVID-19 early last week and was later rushed to the hospital due to complications from the coronavirus, his widow told NBC Bay Area Monday afternoon. He later died at the hospital.

Police sources tell NBC Bay Area Nyce was among the 41 officers placed on leave for not meeting the city’s deadline of being vaccinated by Nov. 1.

I don't know what Officer Nyce's reasons were for not being vaccinated. But it does sound as though he elected to roll the dice on Covid and they came up snake-eyes. If his widow loved him, I hope she gets therapy to help her deal with the anger from the feelings that her late husband dumbshitted himself into a grave.

Elsewhere, those who play these stupid games have to pay:

I may be required to get another booster soon (my 2nd was 8 months ago) because the vaccines lose effect within months. A year from now, will my job be at risk if I only have 5 of the required 6 booster shots?

There is room to question the effectiveness of the vaccine. And if it is not all that effective, why the draconian mandates to get it? Why the outrage for the unvaxxed?

Why the smug-appearing posts when someone loses their life to Covid? Plenty of deaths are of vaccinated people.

The first two shots were the original regimen. It is probably factually incorrect to call the second shot a "booster".

As of now, they're recommending a booster six months after the initial two vaccinations, unless you got J&J. They are recommending a booster there on a shorter interval. There is nothing published that comes close to indicating that within a year, people will have had five or six boosters. So, frankly, I don't have a clue as to what the hell you're tlking about.

"Plenty of deaths are of vaccinated people", but the unvaccinated are dying at over ten times the rate of the vaccinated.

It's like wearing a seat/shoulder belt: Your chances of dying are a lot less if you do. If you get killed in a wreck and you weren't wearing your seatbelt, people are going to comment on that. Make stupid choices, win stupid prizes.

You may not think it's fair that I suggest that the cop in question would still be alive but for his refusal to be vaccinated. Too fucking bad. He made his choice and he paid a price for his choice.

CDC report says "Overall, in August, according to the tool, unvaccinated people were 6.1 times more likely than fully vaccinated people to test positive for COVID-19 and 11.3 times more likely to die from it."

Probably factually incorrect? The heroic medical professionals were using the same batch they used for my 2nd shot for others' 1st shots (yes, I asked). What is different about a booster?

There have been published articles about the vaccines losing efficacy over time, and since the first vaccines administered were in the past year I extrapolated. You can tell me how wrong I am in a year.

10 times?

It is a new thing. For me, i expect to take boosters when they are available. I live right next door to Mexico. Did you know that maybe as much as 90% of the people died of smallpox? Back in the day. It was a horrible time.
I have a scar on my arm from smallpox vaccination. Yes i am an older person. I don't understand this vaccine resistance.

A deep read of that twit reveals not just restaurants and all: if you go to the hospital with covid and you're not vaccinated you'd either better have really good insurance (or a pocket full of cash), or you're gonna' get turned way.

I don't get it either: I'm Mr Natural, gone to great lengths over the past fifty or so years to avoid taking strange chemicals into my body; though as an Army brat I was hit with everything they had (and then some) in the late fifties and again in the early seventies when I bucked-up; not necessarily an anti-vaxxer but I've never had a flu shot. But I was sicker than I'd ever been in Dec '19 and wasn't sure what it was until I did got vaxxed, and experienced the same symptoms as after-effects in both shots. Experienced first hand this past July the effectiveness of the vaccines when I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and somewhat negligent in my personal protection and was hit with the Darwin variant. Not as sick as with the vaccine side-effects, nowhere near as sick as Dec '19, but sick enough to know what it was. So yeah, I don't get it.

Yeah I'm Mr Natural: pump iron, pt five miles a couple/three times a week, eat yogurt and granola, but I've had a cheeseburger or two, fresh fries and a cold long-neck beer. And when I was at MGH last week visiting the spouse after her most recent surgery and came across a line for boosters, I got in it.

I get it ... but I'm also an advocate for thicker skin. Seven and a half soon to be ten billion planet-lice on ball of rock that can barely sustain one, millions if not billions are going to die, one ugly way or another. It's no bark off my shins ...

Richard, under the tattoo on my left arm, I too have that scar. "Where's smallpox now?", I ask the folks who want to argue about it. The vaccine resistance/denial is coming from republicans, and they are paying the price, and endangering the rest of us as well. One stat I read is that more police die of Covid, over 5 times more, than the next leading cause of death in their ranks, I bring it up with the ones I meet and most of them say they have already caught it. Protect and serve, right?

Smallpox was a vaccine, a dead version of the virus.

The Covid shot is not a vaccine. Did you need a "booster" for the smallpox vaccine? IF the number of side effects and deaths had been that high for the Smallpox vaccine, they'd have pulled it. like they did the Swine Flu vaccine when there were a very small percentage of recipients with issues, slightly less than 1% of the ones for the Covid treatment..

So in Singapore, it is no longer about public health then....
Not that it ever was, but the mask has come off now.

So from what I've been reading, the Moderna booster offers the most protection of the three available boosters for those who originally had the J&J shot like me.
Today, in the grocery store, I walked up to the pharmacy window, filled out an ID form, showed them my vax card, and had the Moderna booster in my arm fifteen minutes later.
Continued with my shopping, and got a coupon for 10% off my grocery bill, which was less than ten bucks, but every little bit helps when you're as poor as I am.
No adverse effects, and did fifteen pushups when I got home without any soreness in my left arm where I got the shot.
Just like the original shot I got at the end of April.

Crimus, B, now you’re going to quibble about the definition of a “vaccine”? What, are you on Aaron Rogers’s PR team, now?

The Covid vaccines work. Arguing otherwise smacks of denialism. I pity your side, you guys really seem to think that you’re “Powning the Libs” by nit getting vaccinated and dying frim Covid at higher rates.

They’re not. You’re not. I feel sad for the doctors and nurses dealing with now-preventable cases. But for those in a hospital bed moaning “I shoulda gotten vaccinated,” I feel only scorn.

B may refer to the CDC website changing the definition of 'vaccine' and 'vaccination'.

The definition before 1 Sep 2021 referred to producing 'immunity'; it now refers to "stimulate the body’s immune response against diseases.

I think everyone is missing the issue; again. Not getting vaccinated is about personal freedom.

Also, drive drunk,
let hormonal teenagers carry guns wherever they want to,
be Typhoid Mary without restraint,
make your point by spitting on strangers,
act out your grievances as a mob (every T**** rally),
twist the meaning of democracy so hard it now purports to be fascism,
attack others simply because of the color of their skin,
And when the TFG calls for insurrection and anarchy, march in lockstep to the capitol,
Move on to expunging and calling for the burning of books you disagree with,
Move on to expunging people who are somehow different than you.

And that's just the Nazi qualification short list.

We're one small step away from functional totalitarianism if the alt-right assumes power in 2022 and 2024.

Personal freedom will be just a memory for everyone.
