Lots of folks are snapping up guns in anticipation of them being harder to buy.
I've been down that road and I'm not biting this time around. I picked up an EBR in the early `90s back when only Colt made them and when Bush the First started mulling over banning production of them. Bought a bunch of magazines, too. Maybe if they had banned them soon after, that purchase would have been a good investment. As it turned out, not so much.
Obama is faced with a lot of very serious problems. I don't see him using his political muscle on this issue. Even if he wanted to, there are too many Democrats who remembered what happened after the Brady Bill was enacted to want to repeat that experience. Sure, there are some outliers in the Congress who will introduce legislation for that, but other than being used by the NRA others as a way to jack up fundraising for their PACs, the bills won't have any effect.
Just like abortion, the argument on gun control in this country is effectively over.

As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn’t have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.
Yes, and that is just like the GOP planks about "passing a constitutional amendment to outlaw abortion" or to "outlaw gay marriage" and all of that crap.
All of that crap is red meat for the base, whether Democratic or Republican. The parties say those things and they never come to pass.
Gun control is a loser for Democrats, outside of the big cities, and most of them are smart enough to know that.
