The president said America’s allies in the Gulf asked him to put off the attack for two to three days because they feel they are close to a deal with Iran.
“It’s a very positive development, but we’ll see whether or not it amounts to anything,” Trump said. “We’ve had periods of time where we had, we thought, pretty much getting close to making a deal, and it didn’t work out. But this is a little bit different.”
The danger here is that wannabee autocrats who get painted into a corner can lash out and it's even riskier if they're also stupid. Every time he threatens impending action, he backs off. The Iranians are likely believing that he's bluffing.
Trump is a bully who counts on his enemies folding in th feace of his bluster. The Iranians aren't folding.

And now that they know to conceal themselves from another decapitation strike, the Iranian leaders don't have much to lose and lots of holy martyrs to gain. Short of a ground war or a ton of war crimes, the US doesn't have a whole lot of options and we'll buckle before they do. And most of our options will probably entail all of the oil (etc.) handling facilities in the Persian Gulf being destroyed.
Trump is like the drunk that goes into a bar and picks a fight then calls the police to claim he was assaulted after his beat down. Then sues the bar for not protecting him.
