Reducing everything to its simplest form is the sign of a mathematician.
While Israel is a flawed democracy, it still just bombed a camp of refugees in a designated safe area. You can’t give them a pass on that, or the other stupid shit Bibi has led Israel into. Israel is turning into that which it was created to shelter Jews from. This is bad for Jews worldwide. It provides no excuse for Hamas and its actions, but there is no justification for the level of civilian casualties that Bibi’s offensive has created.
Until the gangrenous Orthodox Settler issue is addressed by Israel, and not just simply placated and ignored, the future of Israeli democracy is uncertain.

What gnaws at me is that the world, especially the West, gives dictatorships a pass and holds democracies to account.
Nobody seems to give a shit that the Russians hit a large hardware store in a shopping center and killed well over a dozen people. It gets mentioned a few times and then the world shrugs and moves its gaze away.
South Africa, which brought the case against Israel to the ICC, doesn't not only give a damn about Russian crimes against the Ukrainian people, they count Russia as one of their friends.

Israel is a functioning democracy only for some values of functioning. Not so much if you're not Jewish, even if you are a non-Jewish citizen, much less a DP of some of its conquered force majeure territory, pursuing Israel's own mountains to the seas irredentism. Or asking for justice or the rule of any law other than lex talonis. Given that its original grant, the Balfour Declaration, states:
"His Majesty's Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country."
You must admit that its second half has been utterly violated. If we ask of Israel some semblance of morality, rule of law and the Geneva Conventions, it is because it was founded with an idealistic vision and utterly fell from that grace.
Nobody's hands are clean in all of this, for sure. But killing 23 Palestinians for each Israeli death may win in the short term, it admits of no peace in Israel's 75 years.
Steward, however flawed, Israel's still a democracy. The other countries in the region either pretend (Egypt, Lebanon, Iran) or don't even try (Syria, Saudi Arabia, Jordan).
