Twenty Years Later....

On May 7, 2025, U.S. travelers must be REAL ID compliant to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities.

So... Twenty-four years after the 9-11 terrorist attack and twenty years after Chimpy signed the Real ID Act to set federal standards for identification cards, that grade of ID is going to be required to board a flight.

That is some fast-moving policy implementation, there.

The trick was getting states to comply...
They are all so good at that. I wonder how much highway fund
money had to be threatened if they didn't.

You can thank the tea-bagging maggots' obstruction for that ...

Hell, Misery didn't get theirs sorted out till the last year or so. It's why I said the hell with it and got a passport card instead. When when I tried to get the missiouri one, there were so many obstacles in the way it wasn't worth the hassle. If they had their way they still wouldn't comply.

If it took 20 years that means we probably didn't need it in the first place. Airports don't provide security; they provide security theater.

Snowdog, that's why I kept my passport up to date.

I went the route of the ID in Ma it was a pita but AAA members
can avoid the registry and long waits. So it was done over
5 years ago.

Since I will not fly commercial and unlikely cross country
borders to me its mostly moot.

Then again it may be needed to transit some states. ;)

I got it when I moved some years back.

I traveled on my passport since 9/11. The TSA doesn't look at you funny when hand them your papers and don't have to give another government organization information they have no business having.

Papieren bitte and security theater all rolled into one. Got to any FBO if you want access to the tarmac.
