Rating the Parties

Ignore the hype, look at the data.

UPDATE per a comment: Need more?

All the culture wars crap that the Confederate party throws up, ie, "gawd, guns and gays" is nothing more than an elaborate smoke screen. The real goal of the Confederate party is gutting and then largely eliminating he middle class. They have manged to persuade tens of millions of people to vote against their economic self-interest. Between gutting banking regulations, one of the prime causes of the Greenspan-Gramm-Bush Recession, and then doing everything possible to both first turn the recession into a massive economic crash (they failed at that) and they throwing obstacle after obstacle up to prevent a recovery from gathering steam (they largely succeeded at that), the Confederate party has been doing everything it can to grow the ranks of the poor and the working poor.

The Confederates have been aided by the DINOs of the Blue Dog Democrats, who have also been doing their best to look out for the interests of large corporations and the rich. They have also been helped by the astroturf groups, such as the teabaggers, who seem to think that scrapping the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy (and electing a Black president) is a commie plot.

Let me put it this way: If you aren't pulling down at least $300,000 a year and you vote for the Republicans, then what you are doing is the the economic equivalent of slashing your wrists. And those of everyone you work with. And probably those of everyone in your family.

If you are OK with that, then there is probably nothing I can say that will change your mind.

Very nice article. If I show it to the wingnuts on the blog I troll at, I'm sure I'll be told all sorts of fabulous stories about the writer's personal life.

I like this graph, too. I'm considering tattooing it on my face: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2010/09/why_elections_matter_in_one_gr.html
