Federal law enforcement and national security officials are preparing to seek sweeping new regulations for the Internet, arguing that their ability to wiretap criminal and terrorism suspects is “going dark” as people increasingly communicate online instead of by telephone.Does anyone seriously believe that the NSA isn't already ahead of this issue?
Essentially, officials want Congress to require all services that enable communications — including encrypted e-mail transmitters like BlackBerry, social networking Web sites like Facebook and software that allows direct “peer to peer” messaging like Skype — to be technically capable of complying if served with a wiretap order. The mandate would include being able to intercept and unscramble encrypted messages.

It's probably just a matter of ass coverage, so they have no worries about keeping the vast stores of information they already have.
I wonder what happens to the people who join the FBI and cops who have integrity. The people that would write their own mother a jaywalking ticket. People with a firm discipline, that expect it of others, and who join up to maintain a world they are comfortable with. I wonder, because it must be obvious when your a cop these days, that your gang is just as bad as any of the others... just larger and with better chains and switchblades.
Jesus Christ, I fucked up "you're" and typed "your."
At least it wasn't "yore."
Not surprised one bit at all.
If it can be hacked it can be tapped.
I wonder if at lest a few of the virii
are not calling home to NSA or FBI rather than them nasty bad hackers.
