It has been 40 years since Dr. King was gunned down.
That was a pretty bad year. Between the murders of Dr. King and that of Sen. Kennedy, there was a feeling that a sure way to get killed was to try and change society. And since then, from Richard Nixon through George W. Bush, we have been treated to a number of presidents who built their candidacy on race-baiting and code words which implied that they were fine with perpetuating discrimination. We have an entire political party which has built the foundation of its presidential campaign apparatus on empowering racism.
You'd think that by now, nearly two generations after Dr. King was assassinated, that we'd have found a way to get past this issue. But we haven't.

It was a bad year. I recall, as a teenager then, feeling that something had started down a very bad road...not that I was particularly Christian, but I was self-studying the Bible alone to try "getting" what everyone was on about at that time. I remember thinking that a "snake" of sorts had obviously entered America's Eden. :-(
