The White House took aggressive aim at Amazon, with President Donald Trump putting in a call to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos Tuesday morning, after the company considered displaying the added cost of tariffs on certain items.
Trump called Bezos to complain about reports that Amazon was considering displaying the cost of US tariffs next to prices for certain products on the company's website, two senior White House officials told CNN. Trump later said it was a "good call."
"Jeff Bezos was very nice. He was terrific," Trump told reporters on Tuesday. "He solved the problem very quickly. Good guy."
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reportedly authorized his country's armed forces to respond to a deadly attack in Kashmir last week in whatever way they see fit, as tensions with neighboring Pakistan remain high.
Hours later, Pakistan's information minister said that Islamabad had "credible intelligence" that India was planning an imminent military strike within the next 24-36 hours.
"Pakistan has credible intelligence that India intends to launch a military strike within the next 24 to 36 hours using the Pahalgam incident as a false pretext," Attaullah Tarar wrote on social media platform X.
"Any act of aggression will be met with a decisive response. India will be fully responsible for any serious consequences in the region!" he added.
Mark Carney used his victory speech to claim Donald Trump wanted to “break us” as he led Canada’s Liberal party to a fourth term in office, in a race that was upended by threats and aggression from the US president.
The Liberal triumph capped a miraculous political resurrection and marked a landmark victory for Carney, the former central banker and political novice who only recently succeeded Justin Trudeau as prime minister.
...
Mirroring a theme of the campaign, Carney told election-night supporters that Trump wanted to “break us, so that America can own us”, adding: “That will never, ever happen,” to shouts from the crowd.
He also gave a stark assessment of a world order once defined by an integrated global trading system with the US at the centre, saying such a system was over, and he pledged to reshape Canada’s relationships with other nations.
“We are over the shock over American betrayal. But we will never forget the lessons,” he said.
Two U.S. citizen children were sent on their mother’s deportation flight to Honduras without the opportunity to speak with attorneys, leaving a 4-year-old boy with Stage 4 cancer without access to his medication, according to the National Immigration Project.
Gracie Willis, an attorney with the organization, told NBC News that the boy and and his 7-year-old sister were detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Thursday. They were taken to El Paso, Texas, and flown to Honduras first thing Friday morning, Willis said.
The 4-year-old boy, who was actively receiving treatment for a rare form of cancer, was flown to Honduras without his medication, according to Willis and the National Immigration Project.
Attorneys were preparing a habeas corpus petition when the children were deported on an ICE charter flight before it could be filed, Willis said.

Spoke with dozens of business owners, many had different stories about how tariffs are impacting their business:
1 - Logistics exec: "One of our big box customers has stopped taking new imports from China altogether."
2 - Community banker: "We are requiring all home builders to bring more equity due to higher anticipated costs. This will have a big impact on new home builds later in the year."
3 - Wholesale distributor: "Overseas suppliers have changed payment terms, requiring payment up front. They've had so many US orders refuse to take delivery due to tariffs, now they view US customers as a credit risk."
4 - Toy retailer: "A large number of our domestic suppliers have cancelled all incoming containers and are not placing new orders until they get some direction, which will impact this coming holiday season. Toys will be in short supply all over the country."
5 - Staffing in manufacturing: "We had a lot of momentum coming in this year. Our manufacturing clients have mostly paused all new placements. We are talking hundreds of would-be jobs that have disappeared."
6 - Investment banker: "We had several deals in process that have stalled, including one large ($300M+) transaction that fell apart literally on the day of closing. The private equity fund got cold feet."
7 - Hospital exec: "We have a few months of inventory of PPE available. We can't pass on price increases, because most of our prices are fixed with the carriers. We aren't placing orders for anything that comes from China."
Not a single international cargo ship at the Port of Seattle. The port is dead. The last ship from China will dock at a West coast port on the 29th, and the last Chinese ship will dock on the East coast around May 10th. After that, there will be no more shipments arriving from China. We’re screwed.

The US and China held talks on Thursday to help resolve the trade war between the world’s two largest economies, Donald Trump said.
“We may reveal it later, but they had meetings this morning, and we’ve been meeting with China,” the US president told reporters at the White House.
...
The Chinese commerce ministry’s spokesperson He Yadong said there were “currently no economic and trade negotiations between China and the United States”.
“Any claims about progress in China-US economic and trade negotiations are baseless rumours without factual evidence,” he said, adding that if the US wanted “de-escalation” – as Trump’s Treasury secretary, Scott Bessent, has argued – it should “completely cancel all unilateral tariff measures against China and find a way to resolve differences through equal dialogue”.
In shelters across New York, migrant children sit in front of computer and TV screens, appearing virtually in real court proceedings. They swivel in chairs, walk in circles and play with their hair — while immigration judges address them on the screens in front of them.
“The reason we’re here is because the government of the United States wants you to leave the United States,” Judge Ubaid ul-Haq, presiding from a courtroom on Varick Street, told a group of about a dozen children on a recent morning on Webex.
“It’s my job to figure out if you have to leave,” ul-Haq continued. “It’s also my job to figure out if you should stay.”
The parties included a 7-year-old boy, wearing a shirt emblazoned with a pizza cartoon, who spun a toy windmill while the judge spoke. There was an 8-year-old girl and her 4-year-old sister, in a tie-dye shirt, who squeezed a pink plushy toy and stuffed it into her sleeve. None of the children were accompanied by parents or attorneys, only shelter workers who helped them log on to the hearing.
