President Donald Trump on Thursday fired his embattled Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, after mounting criticism over her leadership of the department, including the handling of the administration’s immigration crackdown and disaster response.

Trump, who said he would nominate in her place Oklahoma Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin, made the announcement on social media two days after Noem faced a grilling on Capitol Hill from GOP members as well as Democrats.

Whether or not Mullin's going to take Noem to the nearest gravel pit is probably an unfair question. So will be asking what Mullin's going to do with Noem's Flying Fuck-Pad.

Given all of the questions surrounding cozy insider deals that were mentioned in this week's hearings, in a more just administration, Noem, Lewandowski and others would be well advised to hire good criminal defense attorneys. But that won't happen until 2029, at the earliest.

But the main reason may be that Noem has managed to take the thing Trump was most popular on, immigration, and turn it into a negative issue for polling. And we all know that Trump tracks the polls almost as closely as he track the stock market.

The FEMA response to the flooding in Texas was delayed for days because Noem couldn't be bothered to sign off on it.

As monstrous floodwaters surged across central Texas late last week, officials at the Federal Emergency Management Agency leapt into action, preparing to deploy critical search and rescue teams and life-saving resources, like they have in countless past disasters.

But almost instantly, FEMA ran into bureaucratic obstacles, four officials inside the agency told CNN.

As CNN has previously reported, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem — whose department oversees FEMA — recently enacted a sweeping rule aimed at cutting spending: Every contract and grant over $100,000 now requires her personal sign-off before any funds can be released.

But even as Texas rescue crews raced to save lives, FEMA officials realized they needed Noem’s approval before sending those additional assets. Noem didn’t authorize FEMA’s deployment of Urban Search and Rescue teams until Monday, more than 72 hours after the flooding began, multiple sources told CNN..

In 2023, while Kristi Noem was governor of South Dakota, she supplemented her income by secretly accepting a cut of the money she raised for a nonprofit that promotes her political career, tax records show.

In what experts described as a highly unusual arrangement, the nonprofit routed funds to a personal company of Noem’s that had recently been established in Delaware. The payment totaled $80,000 that year, a significant boost to her roughly $130,000 government salary. Since the nonprofit is a so-called dark money group — one that’s not required to disclose the names of its donors — the original source of the money remains unknown.

Noem then failed to disclose the $80,000 payment to the public. After President Donald Trump selected Noem to be his secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, she had to release a detailed accounting of her assets and sources of income from 2023 on. She did not include the income from the dark money group on her disclosure form, which experts called a likely violation of federal ethics requirements.

Grifting $80K is kind of small beer these days, with the Trump clan glomming onto every bit of ash they can squeeze out of the billionaires vying for access, as well as the small change they're getting the Trumpanzees to cough up for merch.

In a recent Senate hearing, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem made a concerning misstatement regarding the constitutional principle of habeas corpus. When Senator Maggie Hassan inquired about its meaning, Noem responded:

"Habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country."

Senator Hassan promptly corrected her, stating, "That's incorrect. Habeas corpus is the legal principle that requires that the government provide a public reason for detaining and imprisoning people. If not for that protection, the government could simply arrest people, including American citizens, and hold them indefinitely for no reason."

Habeus corpus is a fundamental principle in anglo-American jurisprudence that dates back almost 900 years. It's been called "the great writ of liberty", the principle that the state cannot hold people without cause. It is so fundamental that the Framers of the Constitution didn't believe they needed to say that it existed, only to specify the rare circumstances when it could be suspended.

For a public officia, Noem's studied ignorance should be disqualifying.
