Deadstick, keep in mind that there are six barrels on that thing, so each barrel is firing 500 rounds/min. The barrels are whirling around, there is some cooling there, too.
Yeah, but a .50 BMG will overheat at 500 rpm if you don't keep the bursts short...and the Gatling arrangement gives something less than a 6-to-1 cooling advantage, because the barrels are spinning largely through hot air from one another. Aircraft versions depend heavily on ram air.
