There is little cultural overlap between violent extremists abroad and violent extremists at home. But in their disdain for pluralism, in their disregard for human life, in their determination to defile national symbols, they are children of the same foul spirit. And it is our continuing duty to confront them.

On America's day of trial and grief, I saw millions of people instinctively grab for a neighbor's hand and rally to the cause of one another. That is the America I know.
At a time when religious bigotry might have flowed freely, I saw Americans reject prejudice and embrace people of Muslim faith. That is the nation I know.
Right. It was Bush's campaign that said in 2000 that John McCain had a Black love child. In 2004, it was Bush who opted to gin up the Christian Taliban in a culture war to enact bans against gay marriage in the states where they had control.
Oh, Bush talked a nice game of equality and respect for others. But when the rubber met the road, he ran campaigns that were as racist and divisive as those of TFG.

And it was Dubya's campaign in 2004 that stood by while John Kerrey's valiant service was impugned and turned into a joke by chickenhawks and phony patriots. I'll never ever forget the image of a-holes wearing Purple Heart bandaids to mock his real wounds, especially that one fat woman at the republican national convention with one on her chin. To this day, if I saw her I would slap her smug face.
No fan of Bush but he seems to have just enough decency to know when to be at least a little respectful and not make it about himself.
He might be trying to form his legacy to be about something besides the fact he wasn't as bad as the TFG. Of course anyone with a longer memory than last night's news will remember the other things he did.
Both he and his dad took on the job of being a former president with grace and respect towards the nation. Both men did try to do good works.
But not TFG. Being a selfish narcissist is baked into his very core.
My question is this: Will the next Republican president uphold the tradition and somehow make Fergus look good by comparison?

Even more shocking, reports Dan Quayle was consulted by Mike Pence, and convinced Pence he couldn’t intervene in the certification…Dan Quayle!
That there is decency and patriotic Americans in the Republican Party was never really a question to me. The fact that they are in such a minority in that party is what I find stunning. The whack-a-doodles have taken hold there and are driving the party into irrelevance and extinction.

A little late here, but it was Bush who did his share of party drugs (and your share, and my share) in his younger days but who refused to grant any clemency to small time druggies when he was the Big Kahuna.
Yeah, yeah - Laura "got him clean". Yeah, sure.
BP, it's never too late to dump on Chimpy.
