A senior U.S. official says the Obama administration is aware of frequent contacts between President-elect Donald Trump's top national security adviser and Russia's ambassador to the United States. Here's a bet: if the Russians were to roll into the Baltics, the Trump Administration would issue some statement about how the Russians were only reclaiming their historical territory. After all, he's willing to wink at other territorial grabs by the Russians.
The official says the contacts happened on the day President Barack Obama expelled dozens of Russian officials from the U.S. and imposed sanctions as punishment for election-related hacking. The official says the administration is also aware of contacts between Trump adviser Michael Flynn and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak at other times as well.
The day after Obama announced sanctions, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he would not retaliate. Trump praised him for his restraint.
How might this all progress? This is worth the read.

Historical territory. I want to start a conspiracy theory along those lines. Goes something like this: For services rendered, Trump is willing to undo Seward's Folly. Bonus fake quote: I want that bitch's front porch to be Russia.
Apparently, some Russians believe that the sale of Alaska was really a lease. But even Pravda doesn't buy that.
We've already seen an instance or two of Russian troops crossing the border in the Baltics and grabbing people. I suspect they would use the Adolph Playbook, and have a "provocation" occur across the border. Maybe some Russian Special Forces troops, dressed as Estonian troops, grabbing a radio station and issuing Nationalist transmissions about an uprising within Belarus (well within Moscow's orbit) and western Russia to create a new Baltic Federation?
The attackers would be neutralized and a reason for an invasion provided. Given today's communications and social media, witness the electronic proof of Russian troops in the Crimea, I would expect those involved in this operation to be killed in the Russian response, much to their surprise.
