That's Pretty Fucking Rich, Coming From a Republican

As Americans, can we learn to disagree better?

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox thinks so, and on Friday he kicked off his yearlong tenure as chairman of the National Governors Association with a mission he says is “an existential issue and crisis for our country”: Americans’ inability to disagree without hating each other.

Yeah, good luck with that. It was good ol' Republican Newt Gingrich who elevated hating on the other party into a fine art, as egged on by Radio Rwanda host Ruck Limbaugh. Republicans since Newtie have been following his playbook of leveraging hate, apocalyptic rhetoric and elminiationist bullshit into political power.

Cox should deal with the dispensers of hate in his own party before worrying about the rest of the country. There's even a biblical passage to that effect, but we all know that to the GOP, the rules and norms of civil behavior apply only to the other guy.

Meanwhile, on that same day, Florida Man Ron DeSantis was at the Utah State Capitol explaining that "my fighting faith is my faith in god". Oh please! Utah is a weird place, I should know, but I like to think that we are not that stupid. Governor Cox was not my choice, but when you look at most of these other Republicans, I think Utah got off lightly.

Spencer Cox says these things. So, at various times and in various places, do a few other people.

WHY? (Genuine personal conviction is ruled out a priori.)

Who [do they think] are the audience? Is there in fact no such audience, or does it exist but lack influence such that appealing to it is waste motion?

Everything happens for a reason. Mostly the reasons are fantastically stupid, but it is worth going through the exercise of spotting them even so.

Yeah, we all know that he's not serious. The audience for this is the gullible national media. It's just more working of the refs.

Why did he endorse Cruz and Rubio then??

He endorsed them because he lacks the courage of his own heart. He is not sure who he really is. Because he is from Utah, it is hard to reconcile his faith with a world that disagrees.
You could compare him with Senator Mike Lee.
Who is like a pig wallowing in muck.
You could take Sen. Mike Lee and clean him up, best you can, but he would still be the same filth.

This is my best understanding of Mormon theology, so far.

The Boy Cox, Utah's governor, is a poodle led around by the absolutely corrupt Utah Mormon republican legislature. They've had a supermajority ever since Ezra Taft Benson, who was the Prophet of the Mormon Church in the 1980s--and also a John Bircher, racist, homophobe, and anti-Semite--said that one can't be a good Mormon if you vote for a Democrat. And they use it to rule, not govern, rule, Utah with an iron hand. If the citizens pass an initiative they don't like, they ignore it and make the initiative process harder. They are on board with every festering, hateful idea that spews out of the RNC and the usual right-wing suspects, big supporters of ALEC, and despite what people try to say, all in for the bloated orange malignancy, trump*. Utah republicans were Moms for Liberty before it was even in the news. Cox puts on an aw-shucks good ole boy demeanor, but he's just a puppet, and every time the extremists in the legislature make a frowny face at him, he rolls over and begs.

Mormonism, like Scientology, is proof you can pull a religion whole-hat out of your ... hat and make billions of dollars, brutalize brown people and molest little girls
