The House passed a sweeping defense bill Friday that provides an expected 5.2% pay raise for service members but strays from traditional military policy with Republicans add-ons blocking abortion coverage, diversity initiatives at the Pentagon and transgender care that deeply divided the chamber.
Note that one of the MAGA congressmen used the term "colored people", probably because he caught himself at the last minute and didn't use the word that he really wanted to use. On a separate note, it would seem that Matt Gaetz hasn't yet gotten up the nerve to try to lower the sexual age of consent to age ten.
The Pro-Putin MAGA congressmen tried to pass a bill that would make their Uncle Vladdy proud, but even that was a vote too far for a majority of Republicans. You can see a list of the mouth-breathing, low-wattage, pro-Putinites, here. Most of them are known to be too stupid to be allowed to go outside in an electrical storm.
But it's what one might expect from a political party that is so, so enamored with having named Army bases after traitors.

I'm taking my all metal umbrella and goin' for a walk in the electyrical storm and think about how to say the "n" word without actually saying it. Also, need to get advice from Tuberville on how to get those "pride" and "pro-choice" lovers out of the military. /s
When comes to these southern pols, they're not like a box of chocolates; you always know what you're going to get.
I don't come here often, but when I do, it is always fun. I thought that Matt Getz was still in trouble for paying for favors with underage (17 year old) girls, to engage in things that only married people do. Yet I still see him as one of the Republican leaders mentioned on the right leaning news programs and written story lines. Pretty much right next to the complaints about how the Bidens are a crime family who colluded with the Chinese and any other foreign nation that they can think of at the time.
It would seem that things have finally settled down to the status quo in D.C. As long as I am here, I will make 2 predictions about the 2024 presidential election. Joe Biden will not be the Democratic nominee, for any number of reasons, be it his desire to spend more time with his family, wanting to start on his library, etc. We know the reason is that the Democrats are disillusioned with him. And Kamala Harris will not be anywhere near the place. I am thinking that she will be appointed to some plumb position before the campaign gets hot, like an ambassador to the EU, etc.
On the Republican side, things are looking bad for Trump, but the mood in America is such that if the DOJ tries to take him to trial during an election campaign, it could ignite a huge fire the likes of which have not been seen since the 1860's and Atlanta. No matter how much you hate Trump, and I have swung to that side myself, the fact is, he still has probably 70 million people who would still vote for him over any other Republican. Because face it, there are no Republicans running who warm my heart above freezing.
To be honest, as a Michigander, I once thought that my vote meant something. So I refrained from a 3rd party vote, to not give aid to a party that I did not support. I tend to be a single issue voter. Now, however, I am nearing the thought that I might abstain, as a conscious decision. Not from laziness or apathy, but in protest, for reasons that are obvious. No quality candidates with ideas that strengthen America and help her people, while also strengthening our footing worldwide, without provoking war.
Basically, I find it wrong to send another 3,000 national guard troops to Europe while we cannot secure our southern border from allowing enough fentanyl to come in each year to kill 100,000 of our citizens. Plus the billions we have sent to fight a proxy war against Russia, while we have thousands of homeless on our streets, many with mental illness that are not even treated.
Of course a lot of these problems have existed for decades. LBJ and his war on poverty, Nixon's war on drugs, with hundreds of billions spent, and the only thing that has been accomplished is someone got rich and the numbers got worse. As a nation we should be ashamed. Vote for another president who says that he or she will fix it? Riiight.

What do you think should be done to the Sackers and other POS who helped set this up with their mislabeled and mishandled prescription opioids in the first place? And how would those troops stop the flow thru border ports that 99.44% of such shipments must traverse to reach their final destination?

Pigpen51, the good news is it’s closer to 65 million, as a good number are dying daily.
