The kid behind the counter is the owner of the business. Both perps were arrested.
As the saying goes, don't start none, won't be none.

If you're one of the Covidiots who believe that COVID-19 is "just the flu",
that the 2020 election was stolen, or
especially if you supported the 1/6/21 insurrection,
leave now.

Nope your not dead. But your busted!

States seem to vary a lot on self defense issues. Whether protecting your property or person is a right or if in any way possible you can run from a situation. Don't know the outcome but a few years ago in my state a person was arrested for shooting someone in their garage. The way it was put the legal difference was whether the garage was attached or not. But in Texas some years ago a man was acquitted of murder when he shot a 'repo man' from a distance into the back of the cab of the pickup he was repossessing.
There's a lot of variation. Grabbing the tip jar might be shoplifting. Going behind the counter ups it to robbery, maybe strong-arm robbery.
My gut feeling is that the shopowner/clerk is going to be OK.
