Commentariat Doesn't Get It

Bret Stephens, a neocon, argued in the NY Times that Donald Trump will have blood on his hands when one of his unhinged supporters kills a reporter or three.

The fear isn't unfounded.

I believe that warning Trump that his rhetoric will lead to people killing reporters ignores the fact that to Trump, if reporters do get killed by his supporters, that's not a bug, it's a feature.

It is exactly what Trump wants. He probably believes that if some of his supporters kill some reporters, the rest of the media will tone down their criticism of The Presidential Baboon out of fear. That those supporters will end up being shot themselves, spend life in prison or be executed is, to Trump, the cost of doing business.

Trump is inciting murder. If somebody gets killed, he should be charged with incitement, or something.

Trump is a despicable excuse for a human being. He is a fascist. His supporters, by cheering on Trump's attacks on the press, are demonstrating that they are not true Americans. They are phonies. They recite the Pledge of Allegiance and stand for the National Anthem, but they do not believe in the concepts of liberty and freedom for anyone other than themselves.

Trumpanzees are cockroaches on the body politic.

I worry, too, that the tough talk and anger is going to break loose of its online troll moorings and begin to be reflected more and more in our daily interactions. It seems to be happening at the edges already.

We were already angry with each other, I guess. The President is just the match.

We’ve already seen the pizzagate fiasco, and it’s pretty lucky no one was hurt there. Yet the drumbeat continues, so we must ask ourselves, is the media Donald Trump’s replacement for the Jews? It’s “their” fault was a key platform for the Nazi’s, starting with the allies and the Treaty of Versailles, then moving to an available in country scapegoat when needed, the Jews.

As a side note, cockroaches perform a function...

Godwin's Law.

You have a 1A right to call your opponents "cockroaches." Trump has the same right to call journalists "enemies of the state."

Someone stomping a Trump supporter to death (appropriate treatment for an actual cockroach) would not be blood on your hands.

Same way the antifa violence is on each militant, rather than shared by people who throw the National Socialist label around.

When was there antifa violence, Brad? WWII?

Brad, you do recognize the difference between being the President and being a blogger?

If you think there's an equivalence, seek professional help.

Bradley, you fail to properly differentiate between a comparative statement (“Traumpanzees are cockroaches”) which is issued without direction and Donnie’s declarative statements issued repeatedly and directly at the members of the press present. It seems quite likely that Donnie’s words would fall afoul of the inciting to riot standard (18 USC 2102) once a few of his supporters start attacking a reporter or camera person. The fact this never occurred in 2016 when he told his supporters to “rough up” some protestors was disappointing.

For those sanguine about Donnie’s strategy and behavior, a study of the tactics of various democratically elected leaders who changed their countries to songle party rule should bring pause. For those comparing to recent, European dictators, I think the correct comparison is Benito Mussolini to Putin’s Adolf, in relative stature, despite Donnie being the more powerful in the military sense. On the whole, I believe the more apt comparison would be Robert Mugabe, without Donnie having had to actually fight and get his hands dirty.

"....or something".

From LegalUS.com,

"Accessory before the fact refers to a person who aids, abets, counsels, commands or encourages the commission of a felony without actually being present at the scene. Such a person is also guilty of the crime. Accessory in criminal law is a person who, though not present at the commission of a crime, becomes a participator in the crime either before or after the fact of commission. Some states have abolished the common law distinction between principal and accessory before the fact, and the accessory before the fact is prosecuted as a principal. The penalties for being an accessory are usually much less severe than those meted out to the principal. Except where statutes provide differently, an accessory cannot be tried without his/her consent before the conviction of the principal, unless both are tried together".

His supporters also luv them some Bible verses, but have a problem with following Jesus's teachings.
