"First of all, from what I understand from doctors, (pregnancy) is really rare" in rape cases, Akin said, according to a video of the interview posted Sunday on YouTube. "If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."The imbecile then goes on o suggest that it's not fair to penalize the fetus for the father's act of rape:
"But let's assume that maybe that didn't work or something. You know I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child."Right. Nowhere does the point that this, in essence, sentences the victim of the rape to a long period of involuntary servitude. In no other crime that I know of, would a victim be forced by the state to care for a third party because of being a victim.
Akin now claims that he "misspoke". Bullshit. He said exactly what he thought to be true.
Under Akin's version of the law, a complete defense to the charge of rape would be that the victim became pregnant. Regardless of how madly she was beaten, to the pea-brained mind of Akin, pregnancy equals consent.
I doubt that Akin is very much of an outlier in the GOP on this issue. I'm not sure if Romney would believe that a woman can't get pregnant from being raped,* but I think it's probably a good bet that his newly-purchased running mate does.

Maybe the sewer in his head put this logic in place:
If she got pregnant, she must have had an orgasm. Because she loved it. Because the 'rapist' made her love it, and therefore won. Therefore, he's not really a rapist. And she's really a whore.
Almost 30 years ago, an advertising colleague of mine asked with what appeared to be total sincerity, "Don't you think some women who get raped are asking for it?"
"No," I said.
"Aw c'mon. They're asking for it," he insisted.
Shortly thereafter he was arrested as a serial rapist and did 20 years behind bars.
Also interesting: under the strictest possible interpretations of Sharia law, say in certain parts of Afghanistan, raped women can be punished, even executed for "infidelity." Which also leads on to the conclusion that if raped, they must have been "asking for it."
Is Rep. Akin, and even possibly are Messers Romney, Ryan et al intent on imposing Sharia law on Americans? Or repressed rapists?
Only asking.
Yours very crankily,
The New York Crank
Does it also work for HIV, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Chlamydia, Hepatitis, HPV, Herpes?Right, it doesn't, and that's why the woman might not get pregnant, ever again.
These idiots may not realize that beside being assaulted and battered they are now left with, if not pregnant, waiting on the HIV test, recovering from vaginal lacerations, STDs and PSTD! If the rapist is known to have HIV then it's 6
months of the toxic but often lifesaving cocktail while waiting on the HIV test.
If she is pregnant the child may be HIV infected or worse. The victim gets to
suffer yet more.
One of the common themes of dystopian futures is women are now chattel and prized
for scarce reproductive ability. Of course it's the result of atomic war or some disease gone wild. But in reality it only takes a widely spread copy of any in the above list. When you consider that many of those are getting antibiotic resistant
we have a potential for making a story into fact.
Did it ever occur to this asshat that rapists are just diseases on the hoof?
Akin, you are an idiot.
Eck!
The clearest way to understand this clown's mindset is the use of the words "legitimate rape". WTF?
