We are the only industrialized nation in the frakking world which does not mandate paid maternity leave.
For this, I am comfortable in assigning the credit to the party of the Confederacy and to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, two organizations that would be perfectly fine with rolling the clock on civil rights back to 1807.
But this is part of a broader picture. The Confederates and the business interests do not value American-born workers. That is one of the reasons why the Confederates are so adverse to the concept that education is a public good. Business regards people as widgets that cost nothing to acquire or replace.
