Two days ago, I said that I was going to start to refer to the GOP as the party of the Confederacy. Then today, I read on TPM that one of the denizens of the Right is advocating rounding up all Muslims in this country, whether or not they are Americans, and deporting the lot of them to the Middle East.
Uh-huh. The Right has been beating this drum for centuries, except up until fairly recently, it was about repatriating Black people to Africa. The people who didn't like the idea of free Black people were lining up to support that idea, even to the point of ponying up cash to help fund Liberia. If you go back and read some of the justification for repatriating slaves to Africa, it is stunningly similar to the rationale for forcing all Muslims to leave the country.
Same old shit, different target group. The party of the Confederacy marches on.

Yeppers. As I said on my own blog, I heard this same crap said about black people when I was growing up in the segregated South, including the faux concern trolling about "they'll be happier back in Africa with their own people." Same sheet, different darky...

I've a friend who said that the one benefit of 9-11 was that the authorities were now more interested in fucking with Muslims than with Blacks.
'External' enemies are so handy, distracts scrutiny from their agenda and lack of ideas (or even desire) for improving the country and the lives of its citizens (vs. lining corporate pockets and clamping down on the rabble).
Chris Rock had a sketch on how 9/11 got the cops focused on muslims.

Then came Abdullamutallab the Underwear Bomber, so cops had an excuse to fcuk with black folks again. But cops jack everyone who's not obviously powerful. Black, white, Hispanic, whatever. If you're a "civilian" and you're not rich as shit, you're in for a beat-down or a Tazing or whatever the fuck a cop feels like doing to you, any time the cop interacts with you, should you step out of line in the slightest. And by "step out of line" I mean acting in any way besides how a dog would act around a master that's beaten it repeatedly. I hate cops.
American ones, that is. There are lots of corrupt and violent cops in Australia and Canada, but I was often surprised when I'd encounter some who would act, well, human. As opposed to coply.
