For the first time in 75 years, neither the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize nor any of the recipient's family was permitted to attend the award ceremony.
Liu Xiaobo was awarded the Peace Prize this year. The last Nobel Peace price recipient who was denied permission for either him or his family to attend was Count Carl von Ossietzky, who was awarded the Peace Prize in 1935.
Nazi Germany held Von Ossietzky in a concentration camp until he died in 1938.
The People's Republic of China is holding Liu in prison for being a dissident.
