I didn't know there were that many left in flying condition.

Beautiful photo.

There's more out there, too, Cujo. Red Bull has one - the former "White Lightning" of air race fame.

Here's a vid I took of it here in Pensacola. They flew into NAS Pensacola and then had to hoist it over a fence via crane. They then towed it down the street - blocking traffic - towards a barge that would take it across the Atlantic to Europe.

Cujo, there may be seven or so P-38s that are flying.

Nowadays it's hard to believe they built over 10,000 of that one type.

Holy cow, that many can still fly?
Next to the p57-D the P-38 is my fav
It was designed for the pacific theater cause the two engines sorta guaranteed the pilot would return

Thanks for that video link, Wicked Penguin. Moving airplanes on the ground sure can be an adventure.

Seven or so, EB? Like montag said, hard to believe they manufactured thousands of them.

Cujo, how many cars from the 1940s do you see on the roads? It's been 65 years since VJ Day, that any are still flying is a near-miracle.

Those things are the shit, I have always loved them.

That is just so frickin' cool. I don't care where they are, I would be there if I knew in advance.

One of the all time classic propeller fighter planes...the P-38. Its design is timeless.
