Are They Fucking Serious?

This is a web site that purports to follow Biblical principles and where people offer their daughters for marriage for a "bride price."

I don't know if this is a spoof or not. If it is a spoof, it is a damn good one.

If it's not, well,

Crocodile Tears From Bush

Bob Herbert, in today's New York Times (it is "TimesSelect" online, a real royal pain in the ass), makes the point that for all of the professed concern of Chimpy's henchmen that what they are trying to do is avoid a humanitarian crisis in Iraq, the crisis long ago arrived.

To wit:

Der Monkey Fuhrer's minions do their best to not know how many Iraqis have been killed since Bush began his war of choice. It is probably over 100,000, and may be far higher than that.

Nobody knows how many Iraqis have been maimed.

8% of the population of pre-war Iraq has fled the country. An equal number have been displaced internally by sectarian cleansing.

Approximately one-half of the doctors have fled.

Due to a lack of safe drinking water in a country that formerly had safe drinking water, cholera has appeared.

And that doesn't even get into child malnutrition or the collapse of the electrical grid or the scarcity of consumer-level petroleum products in a nation sitting on huge amounts of oil.

Let's scale those numbers so that we can apply them to the USA. If something like that was going on here, 24 million Americans would have fled to Mexico and Canada. 24 million more would have had to move in an attempt to escape death squads. 3 million would have been killed, maybe ten million. Major cities, such as New York and Chicago, would have one to three hours of electricity a day.

This is "success" according to George W. Bush.

Bush's definition of success is like praising a child for doing well when the kid got a D on a third of the coursework and failed the rest.

The Google

Like a lot of bloggers, I use an app that records visits. (It does not go deeper than the local ISP, so no, I don't who you are.)

One thing it does is see where hits on this blog come from and that sometimes is a little amusing. For instance, I had this reference to an entry on the Munchkin Wrangler's blog about how his mailman said that he had go to the post office to mail a package containing baby clothing.

Sure enough, someone googled "baby clothing" and wound up here. Surprise, surprise, surprise!

We're No. 17!?!

USA is 17th in the ranking of democracies.

Note, if you will, that in the nations ranked as "full democracies", the U.S. is dead last in the civil liberties category.

One guess as to whom I blame for that appalling statistic.

The Catch-Phrase for This War

"Return on Success."

That's going to go into the history books, right up there with "Light at the End of the Tunnel."

And that's not the only similarity between Bush's Clusterfuck and Vietnam. Then, as now, a bunch of ivory-towered "thinkers" thought that they could run a war better than the military, the only difference being it was Democratic think-tankers in Vietnam and Republican think-tankers in Iraq. Then, as now, they put our armed forces into an impossible situation and the generals, instead of speaking truth to power, saluted and tried to get the job done. And in doing so, the generals sacrificed their personal honor and broke the Army as an institution.

First step towards sanity: Anyone who has ever worked at a "think tank" should be forever barred from working for the executive branch of the federal government. Any "think-tanker" who sets foot in Ft. Fumble should be shot, even if all they did was get off the Metro to go to the Pentagon City Mall.

About ten years ago, an Army officer named McMasters wrote a book called "Dereliction of Duty", about how the military leadership failed in its duty to tell the truth to the President. Anybody who doesn't think that there is no shortage of junior officers who have served in Iraq who are planning on writing a sequel to that book is fooling themselves.

Glutton for Punishment

Shark-fu over at the Angry Black Bitch TiVo'd Chimpy's speech so she and her friend could stop the playback and scream at Chimpy.

I think the Bitch is crazy (and since that is how she refers to herself, take it up with her, not me). It took them two hours to get through the speech.

About th only thing I might prefer watching Chimpy for two hours over would be appearing as the guest of honor at a firing squad. And even then, I'd have to do a Jack Benny.

"I'm thinking, I'm thinking."

Bagging Work

I blew off work a little after 4PM and went to the range. First photo is of about 30 or so .45 rounds. The targets are reduced size silhouettes, the downrange distance was about 30 feet. I tried to run a few Mozambique drills. A couple of the headshots would have probably disoriented an attacker, but wouldn't have put him down if he was determined.

The second target is a box of 9mms, same distance. A few went low and to the left, as I was trying to work on a little faster second shots.

And this is the start of the cleaning process. Not only do I not like the smell of Hoppes No.9, I don't think it's the sort of shit that I want to be inhaling, so I wear a half-mask that has VOC-rated filters. I used to shoot at a range that had kind of iffy ventilation, I wore the mask there, too. Some of the other shooters used to give me funny looks, but fuck them, it wasn't their lungs I was worried about.

Why Not an Adult for President

Next year, let's try to elect a functioning adult to replace this aged frat boy.

Calling him a "smirking chimp" could be construed as an insult to chimpanzees. What sort of retard would make a hand-sign like that while standing next to the Queen of England?

In a time when honor was taken more seriously, we'd now be at war with the British.

Iraq Troop Levels

I did not watch the Chimperor's speech last night. I would rather have simultaneously gargled with ground glass and douched with liquid nitrogen.

"Success," he claims. The Iraqi electrical distribution system has fallen apart due to a combination of sectarian control and insurgent attacks. Four million refugees or more. The neighborhoods that the Administration says are "successes" because the sectarian cleansing has been completed in those neighborhoods.

And then there is Anbar province, the shining success claimed by Der Monkey Fuhrer. What Preznit Disgustus and his sycophants overlook is that other than Baghdad, more Americans die in Anbar than any other province in Iraq.

As for the Coalition of the Bribed, they're heading for the exits. Australia (not "Austria," Chimpy) will join them if Prime Minister Howard loses the upcoming election, which is probably a given as apparently the only politician less popular than Howard with the Australians is Chimpy, which explains why the Aussies had to seal off a good chunk of Sydney for his recent visit.

We are so screwed, for we have, as a president, a little coward who, having dodged the Vietnam War, concluded the only reason that war turned out badly was because we left rather than throwing another few million men into that meatgrinder. We are so screwed because we have politicians like John Boehner (R-OH) who refer to the casualties as "a small price to pay."

Boehner, like Chimpy, isn't coming back from Iraq with his legs blown off or with a bad traumatic brain injury, or both. Their children are not coming home in the coffins, coffins that this Administration goes to extraordinary efforts to hide from the American people.

In this "struggle of our times", as Chimpy likes to put it, none of the next generation of his family have chosen to participate. Not his daughters, not his nephews, not his nieces. Mitt Romney, who has drunk the GOP Kool-Aid on Iraq, the man who thinks Gitmo should be "doubled in size", has five sons who are all in good health (apparently) and who are all of military age, but none of them has seen fit to volunteer for the fight.

That is how much Republicans care about this war. They are all for fighting it with the lives of other people's kids.

"Success." What a fucking truckload of bullshit.
