FiFi returned to flight yesterday after some serious overhaul work.
If I remember correctly, FiFi was one of the B-29s at a Navy target range in Navada. The CAF got it flyable in the early 1970s and flew it out to its base then at Harlingen. When it landed, a reporter asked the pilot how much B-29 time he ad. The pilot looked at his watch and said "about six hours".

Beautiful planes. Had one at Chanute AFB when I was cross-training from being a snake eater to being a coat carrier.
Studly!
Dear Miss Fit:
For those interested, Capt. Randy Sohn's comments on the recovery of the B-29 "Fifi" from China Lake in 1971 can be read here. Good stuff!!

Yes and those beautiful R3350 18 cylinder radials Is it true every 4 enging plane w/them was called a Tri Motor?
That's why the DC-7s were known as "three-engined airplanes with four-bladed propellors".
