Between nine and 20 civilians, almost all members of the same family, were killed by a US airstrike.
Air power is a blunt instrument. And you can bet your ass that no matter how much money the US gives the survivors, the resentment will linger for decades. It's one thing to bomb enemy civilians, it's quite another to bomb the very people that you profess to be defending.
That's one of the reasons why we don't let the police call in airstrikes. The one time it was done in recent memory, the reverberations for the Philadelphia P.D. lasted a very long time.
