RNCC Sides With Trumpist Traitors
[T]he National Republican Congressional Committee acknowledged in a statement Monday that last week’s violence at the Capitol “has no place in our democracy” but said efforts to remove Trump from office would be divisive.
“The violence we saw unfold in our nation’s capital last week has no place in our democracy,” Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) said in a statement. “It was a disgusting and dangerous spectacle that ultimately cost people their lives.”
Emmer said, “We must come together to heal our nation,” but added that an effort led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to impeach Trump “will further divide us.”
That's just meaningless pap. Chris Christie has the right of it:
Chris Christie tells @GStephanopoulos Trump’s incitement of Capitol siege is an impeachable offense: “If inciting to insurrection isn’t, then I don’t really know what is.” https://t.co/FnD9YSf2TE pic.twitter.com/rONPP8C0x3

Trump incited an insurrection. There has to be real consequences for everyone involved. There can be no healing without justice. Otherwise, what we have will be a clear example of right-wing privilege. If a Black mob had assaulted the Capitol in the same way, the authorities would have had to hire reefer trucks to hold the bodies.
There were probably more cops at Bill Nye's March for Science than there was when the Trumpist Beer-Belly Putsch took place.
There is a corrollary to Occam's Razor that holds that one should never blame on cupidity that which can be blamed on stupidity. Either the Capitol Cops or the Segerant-At-Arms for the Capitol deliberately understaffed their forces on 1/6/21 or they were morons who paid no attention to the smoke signals.
There is now an argument being made that we should show leniency to the Trumpist mob, to go lightly on them and to make it clear to them that we are being merciful. I say: Fuck that noise. This wasn't your everyday garden-variety riot. These weren't a bunch of thugs looting package stores or burning car dealerships. These were insurrectionists, trying to overturn the results of a free and fair election. They were trying to put in their guy, who lost, because their guy has been spewing lies and baseless accusations for months on end.
They weren't trying to loot stores, they were trying to loot our country, to throw our democracy onto the ashheap.
For that, they need to be landed on with the full weight of the criminal justice system, starting with ten years for damaging a federal monument (a criminal charge advocated for by Trump).
The mercy shown to them should be the mercy that they are not being dealt with as insurrectionists once were: Dragged out into the public square and have their heads chopped off.
If We Were To Follow Trump's Logic, All Republicans Would Be on No-Fly Lists
Do you remember how conservatives, after 9-11, sought to tar all Muslims with the actions of the terrorists? They asked "where are the moderate Muslims; why won't the Muslims do something about the fanatics in their ranks; isn't it apparent, by now, that Islam is an ideology that supports terror?"
Trump tried to put all Muslims on no-fly lists. He tried to ban all Muslims from entering into the U.S. Conservatives advocated for surveilling all Muslims. Some went to far as calling for rounding them all up.
Do you remember all of that? I do.
So now, should we be asking where are the Republicans who believe in this country? Where are the Republicans who are stepping up to denounce Trump? Certainly not this guy.

All of Those On Parler Who Were Planning/Discussing the Beer-Belly Putsch in Advance?
If this is accurate, they are cooked. Another accounting.
I don't have the technical knowledge to assess wheter any of the information at the link is true or if it's bullshit.
It's uncertain whether a guy who was crying about his life being ruined was on a no-fly list for rioting or for being a mask asshole on an earlier flight. Some of the presumed rioters took their defiance to mask-wearing on return flights and have been banned from that airline.

A Question
Are the various military cops (CID, NCIS, etc.) cooperating with the D.C. cops and the FBI to see if active-duty or reservists were among the insurrectionists/terrorists and if so, will they be court-martialed?
Will any retirees in the mob also be recalled to active duty and court-martialed?

Looking for Sympathy, Republicans? You'll Find It in the Dictionary, Between "Sedition" and "Treason"
Members of Congress will be getting increased security while traveling through airports in the aftermath of the attack on the US Capitol Wednesday and as several senators have been harassed at airports, according to a notice sent to lawmakers Saturday.
...
Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, a close ally of President Donald Trump who was critical of the President this week, was confronted and screamed at by Trump supporters at Reagan National Airport, according to videos posted on social media Friday.
You guys fed the monster that is Trumpism. When Trump told lie after lie about the election, you did not stand up to tell the truth. Graham, especially, made phone calls to try to persuade an alternative total of the votes in Georgia. Some of you fuckers even tried to overturn the results of the election. Even though you knew that you had no chance, that the Constitution forbade what you were trying to do, you played into Trumpist fantasies. When Trump was babbling on that the Vice President could alter the outcome, you said nothing, you did nothing.
Trumpism is a monster that you connived with, you tolerated. You put the interests of your party and your own skins ahead of the interests of the nation.
Now the monster that you have nourished is coming for you. You want sympathy?
Cry me a river.

Don't Worry About it, Cal
Cal Thomas, who styles himself as a conservative and an evangelical, had this to sy:
Other sources.
He shouldn't worry about it. The Trumpists apologistas are out in full force, doing their utmost to justify Wednesday's attempted coup by Trumpist insurrectionists. They'll never blame him for supporting Trump.
On the other hand, there are people like me. Mr. Thomas, who well knew the nature and quality of the man that you have been supporting for years. Those of us who were familiar with Trump's business practices and his politics tried our best to warn you about the man to whom you hitched your wagon.
But did you listen? No.
We pointed out Trump's racism and his bent towards authoritarianism. We pointed out his irrlegiousity and his misogyny. We pointed out that Trump has never met a lie that he cannot tell, a promise that he can't break, a deal that he can't weasel out of or welsh on.
But did you listen? No. Cal, you believed that you could overlook that, all of it, so long as you got something out of the deal. As Trump shattered one democratic norm after another, you closed your eyes and stoppered up your ears.
Cal, it apparently didn't even bother you when Trump proclaimed his lack of belief in fair elections in 2016 and when he acted on his belief in 2020. He spun a whopper of a series of lies about voter fraud and Venezualean voting machine tampering. You let Trump continue with his lies, without objection, and you let him poison the minds of tens of millions of Americans because you got what you wanted.
In other words, Cal, Trump paid you off. He bribed you to look the other way as he enriched himself and his family through acts of corruption that, if a Democrat had done one-one thousandth of thise things, you would have been out in the streets with pitchforks and torches.
But now, only now, that Trump tried to stage a coup and failed, you are expressing regrets for having sat down and supped with this particular devil for four years.
Right. You were never Trumpers, just like there were tens of millions of Germans who weren't really Nazis. They went along to get along, just as you did. Only, unlike a lot of those Germans, there was no Gestapo to enforce obedience. You followed Trump down into this dark, dank hole of your own free will.
What happened on January 6th, 2021 happened because people like you, Cal Thomas, were happy to watch Trump attempt to destroy democracy, as long as they saw a profit in it. You felt free to do that because you thought there really wasn't any danger that Trump would succeed at making himself into a dictator.
Well, you were almost very wrong. Trump sent his mob to the Capitol to stop the certification of the election and seize power for himself. Trump was abetted by local law enforcement and federal law enforcement which, despite plenty of warning, took no advance action to prevent the coup. Trump was aided and abetted by all of the Republican politicians who were too cowardly to oppose him. Only when faced with an actual lynch mob did some of the Republicans in Congress grow a spine.
So, Cal Thomas, Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, the Right-Wing Media, Trump's acolytes and all of the evangelicals who sacrified their morals and their ideals and their souls for some judges and tax breaks : This is on you. When push came to shove, you put your own petty interests ahead of the nation. You gave your loyalty to Trump, not to the Constitution, not to the American Experiment.
And I, for one, will do what I can to ensure that you are never allowed to forget it.
Conservatives and evangelical Christians, like myself, have for too long rationalized that ignoring the president's language and behavior was tolerable because of his policies. There comes a time, however (even at this late hour), when one must ask one's self if this was a Faustian bargain that overwhelmed legitimate policy disagreements.
...
The excuses, the comparisons with what the left does and the "whataboutisms" won't cut it this time. This is not conservatism. This is not Republicanism. The Republican Party was founded largely as an anti-slavery party. Too many among today's members and among conservatives (not always the same thing) have become enslaved to the person and personality of Donald Trump. This is not hero worship. It is idolatry.
