I was wondering why they not only have a second operating Steam Locomotive but a modern engine as well?
Isn't the Big Boy capable of pulling that train by itself?

The diesel is to provide "hotel services" to the passenger cars.

The second steam engine is for show. The Big Boy could easily pull a hundred-car train.
