Time to Ditch WhatsApp?

Facebook plans to integrate its messaging services on Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

While all three will remain stand-alone apps, at a much deeper level they will be linked so messages can travel between the different services.
I suppose that this is good for Zuckerberg and Facebleech, but it's probably not good for anyone who uses WhatsApp for secure communications.

But then again, I have little trust of FB, to the point that I suspect that the "ten year challenge" is a disguised way to improve their facial recognition algorithms.

If you're looking for an alternative encrypted secure messaging app, what do you think about Wikr?

I read on Twitter today that a bug in ios/Macos allows incoming facetime calls to activate the phone or laptop without the recipient being aware of it.
Sounds like something to be careful of if you have an Apple device.

I don't think the "10 year challenge" has a secret agenda simply because Facebook doesn't need to ask to get that information; all they have to do is troll through profile pictures posted at different times to get aging information - they already have the files and the access necessary.

That's it. Sorry for the typo. Been a bit under the weather (so to speak) for the past couple days. To clarify: I have an Android device. Not that familiar with the Appleverse, if that's what you use. So many apps have versions available for multiple OS that I often forget there might be differences.

Hadn't heard the info re Whatsapp until I saw it here, though I've managed to avoid signing up with Fbook or any of their proprietary apps up to now. Only used this Wickr app a couple times so far, but it seemed to be working as intended. Hard for a non-expert like me to be sure, of course.

Just wondered if you were aware of any concerns about it that I should consider.
