The Soviet Union lost several times more soldiers than we did. On the other hand, it only took htem nine years to figure out that trying to control Afghanistan was an errand for idiots; it took us almost twenty years.

I know that it's the prerogative of the Commander, to be 'first off/last on'....but I would have liked to see him give that honor to some young Paratrooper, perhaps who wasn't even alive when we invaded Afghanistan.
But of course, that would have shined a very bright light on a very dark chapter.
