The U.S. Army has raised the maximum enlistment age to 42 and also relaxed rules on recruting individuals with drug convictions as the service continues to widen its recruiting pool.

The Army has a massive recruitment problem, and raising the maximum age to 42 brings them into line with the Navy and Air Force maxima of 41. Once or twice during the Iraq and Afghan wars Army would raise the maximum to try and make their recruitment numbers, so this seems to be more of the same... the big change is cancelling the marijuana prohibition.
Still not going to fix things though. It's hard enough for them to find people who aren't physically blown up or mentally broken down enough already to be useful. I can't imagine going through Basic with 42 year old knees, unless Basic becomes a very unsatisfactory facsimile of itself.
